What is ruMAD²?

What is ruMAD²? (are you Making a Difference too?)

The ruMAD² cycle is a 'work in progress', to invite children and young people (C&YP), members of the children's workforce and local communities to help build strategies and processes that make a difference for others as well as themselves.

Making a difference, believing in and supporting every C&YP is at the heart of occupational standards for anyone working with C&YP and their families.

ruMAD² is based on a simple 'plan, review and do' process which aims to help on many levels to:-

  • Develop aspiration, optimism and resilience (ARO) in children and young people (C&YP), their families and the children's workforce;
  • Help and inspire C&YP to aspire and realise their goals, leaving school knowing and believing they can 'Make a Difference'.
  • Develop ARO in leaders and the children's workforce to make a difference for C&YP and their families;
  • Develop an understanding of motivating and influencing language to engage and communicate success fully with other;
  • Build self-esteem and self-efficacy through greater ownership of the ideas, projects and curriculum;
  • Provide children and young peoples' with their 'own' reason for learning;
  • Facilitate understanding to find the root of what motivates C&YP and enable them to tap into their own enthusiasms and success criteria;
  • Reach difficult and reserved young people by helping the workforce understand the particular language motivators and questions needed to inspire positive responses from them;
  • Develop the listening skills of the children's workforce as to what is important to C&YP;
  • Build future young leaders through a more engaging leadership coaching process.
  • Assist with the workforce Performance Management cycle, providing 'evidence of impact' of learning and leadership, by starting with 'the end in sight';
  • Guide your own aspirations for successful outcomes;

They are being further evaluated through ESRC Funding & Northumbria University. ruMAD² is an independent charitable company with aims to attract further funding for C&YP in the North East to help them and the people around them to make a difference in their own communities.

To date, the ruMAD² process has been sponsored by the North East Regional TDA and BECTA and is at the heart of 'positive contribution' and aims to build 'psychological capital' in communities, families, regions and classrooms, organisations.
